Set within the beautiful Chew Valley, the River Chew rises in the village of Chewton Mendip, Somerset and flows through the Mendip Hills to form the Chew Valley Lake. The club has exclusive access to around 1.75km of some of the best sections of the river below Chew Valley Lake. The river is a mixture of slower sections and longer runs, deeper pools, weirs and faster water.
Insect life is excellent with Sedge, Caddis, Midge, Olives and upwings regularly seen and the Mayfly hatch in summer brings free rising fish to the dry fly.
The Chew is a challenging river, ranging from shallow water to pools over two meters deep. Stealth and a shorter rod length with light tackle tend to bring the best results and wading is encouraged.
Wild brown trout are plentiful with fish up to 2lb caught and providing excellent sport throughout the spring and summer months. Grayling are also regularly caught, especially through the winter months offering year-round fishing with fish up to 13 inches being recorded.
